If you have to travel on business or for pleasure and are unable to take your dog with you, then you may wish to leave them at a kennel or boarding facility. To make this even easier, you can arrange to have a pet pickup service come to transport your dog from your home to the kennel. Here are a few tips you can follow to ensure both you and your dog have a good experience with a pickup service.

1. Send your dog's own crate or carrier.

Many pickup services will provide a crate or carrier for your dog to ride in if you don't supply your own. However, your dog will likely be more comfortable in their own crate since it smells like them and is a familiar space. Make sure your dog's crate is secure, lined with a cozy blanket, and is otherwise ready to go so they a good ride.

2. Schedule the pickup earlier than needed.

You never know what the morning of the pickup might bring. It might take a little longer than usual to get your dog in the crate, or the driver may have some questions for you before they leave. To make sure you're not rushed, schedule your pickup with plenty of time to spare. For example, if you need to leave your house at 10:30 am, schedule the pickup for 9:00 am.

3. Send a photo of your home or a GPS pin of your location.

If your home is at all hard to find, make sure you send the pickup service either a photo of your house or a dropped pin of your location. This will save them from having to drive around and search for your home, which ensures prompt service.

4. Give your dog a light meal well before pickup.

If your dog has ever experienced car sickness, this is especially important. You do not want them to throw up in the pickup van. Feed them a light meal a couple of hours before pickup. Make sure you don't give them any big treats or chewing bones in the time between their meal and the pickup as these rich treats may make them more likely to vomit.

Follow these tips, and the pickup experience will be a good one. Your dog will get a nice, pleasant ride to the kennel, and you get to save time. Contact a pet pickup service for more information.
